Ukraine hopes to use the situation around Belarus to its advantage
Thanks to Western pressure on Belarus, Ukraine can benefit and strengthen its subjectivity.
Roman Bessmertny, the former ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus, stated this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Bessmertny, Ukraine can take over transport flows that previously went through Belarus.
“Ukraine has a huge chance to become subjectivized in European politics, using the situation in Belarus. Because as of 2013, Belarus had four international flights per day. Now she has, until recently, more than two hundred. Do you understand perfectly well what Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has led to? This is the linking of transit corridors, aviation, road, and so on, to Belarus. In this situation, I insist on this again, Ukraine may become subjectivized.
One more thing. Pay attention to the volume of smuggling that has been coming from Belarus all these years, fuels and lubricants, which amounted to almost a third. The correct sanctions policy of Ukraine towards Belarus in this situation, it can also close this budgetary hole. And there are a lot of such things. A close analysis of the situation shows that competent behavior - sanctions, coordinated actions of neighbors, actions synchronized with the European Union give Ukraine both political and economic gains,” said Bessmertny.
