Ukraine hopes to strangle Russia at the negotiating table

Ukraine's policy towards the Russian Federation has remained the same as under the previous government - only the tactics have changed.

This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Kommersant by Andrei Suzdaltsev, associate professor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the Higher School of Economics.

“Ukraine remains the same, only the tactics have changed. Under ex-president Petro Poroshenko, they tried to keep Russia isolated and suppress it with sanctions so that it would break. Zelensky has a different tactic - to suppress it with sanctions, but to pull him out of isolation, sit him down at the negotiating table and put pressure there - with the help of Western partners,” the expert said.

He considers international lawsuits against Russia to be just one of the measures of such pressure.

“They need victories at any cost, at least in something,” summed up Suzdaltsev.

Let us remind you that on December 9, a meeting of the leaders of the Normandy format – Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine – will take place in Paris.
