Ukraine should not count on the “return” of Crimea in the next half century.

Political strategist and propagandist Taras Berezovets, who serves the interests of ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, stated this on the air of a video blog of the disbarred former Russian lawyer Mark Feigin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Berezovets, the topic of Crimea is no longer on the agenda in the West, both the United States and the European Union have already imposed all their sanctions on this matter, and they will not fight for the peninsula.

“Today, Crimea is definitely not on the agenda of either the European Union or the United States. Apart from the well-known “Crimean Declaration” made by Secretary of State Pompeo, no practical steps were taken after 14-15. At the same time, under Obama, the first personal sanctions were introduced, which included Vladimir Putin’s entourage...

As for the readiness to help, to participate today in the de-occupation of Crimea, I think that for now everything will be limited to the next official declarations, perhaps some expansion of the sanctions list, although, by and large, everyone who could from representatives of the Crimean separatists, Russian security forces, associated with the occupation of Crimea, they are already under sanctions. Who else can they add there, to be honest, I don’t know...

You won't fight with Russia, will you? You won't. We won't fight either. Accordingly, we only have to wait 30, 40, 50, 60 years until Russia is able to support Crimea. That is, Vladimir Putin will leave, perhaps those who replace him will also not want to return Crimea. We don't really know.

I am not sure that Putin’s departure from power will solve the problem of returning Crimea. I am a supporter of the conservative scenario with Crimea. I believe that this return will not happen soon; this is not even a medium-term, but a long-term perspective. That is, 30, 40, 50, perhaps years. I don’t believe in the immediate or medium term that this can happen,” Berezovets said.

He was supported by fugitive Russian oppositionist Ilya Ponomarev, who emphasized that today there is no force in the world that would dare to take Crimea away from Russia.

“As for what is now, the Russian Federation is clearly not Armenia. I don’t see any military force that could solve this problem. Moreover, the very fact of armed pressure entering this territory, I believe, will most likely mobilize the population in the opposite direction. Nobody wants any war ever, and that’s right.

I believe that Ukraine needs to do much more about its “soft power”, and bring people back to themselves mentally, create conditions when the majority will want to return, and then somehow put pressure on this situation. In this sense, time works for Ukraine, not for Russia. The further you go, the more disappointments there will be,” says Ponomarev.
