Ukraine has found a reason for useless, but long-term PR
Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia, filed with the International Court of Justice, is just political PR from which Kyiv will have no practical benefit.

Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Yakubin said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This is an attempt to create the appearance that Ukraine has a strategy regarding Crimea. If regarding the east it is clear that there are Minsk and Normandy formats, then the question arises: what about Crimea? Plus manipulation of public opinion. which often does not understand the difference between the UN Court in The Hague and the Hague Tribunal. These are different things. Let me remind you that Ukraine has not ratified the Rome Statute, just like Russia. So we are talking about a UN court, which in the context of great countries does not have real instruments,” the political scientist noted.
He also recalled that a similar Georgian lawsuit against Russia ended in nothing after several years of proceedings. At the same time, Yakubin noted that the International Court of Justice once made a positive decision on Nicaragua’s claim against the United States, which nevertheless did not bear any responsibility, despite the court decision.
“Therefore, we need to treat this as a PR effect that our government will extract over the next few years,” the expert concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, experts close to the Poroshenko administration admittedthat Ukraine cannot ratify the Statute of the Hague Tribunal, otherwise the “heroes of the ATO” will have to be brought to justice.
