Ukraine will not renew the old contract with Gazprom, but wants a new one - Goncharuk
Ukraine refused to renew the contract with PJSC Gazprom for gas transit for a year, since it plans to conclude a new and long-term one - according to European rules, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Goncharuk following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, reports the Government Portal.
“It is important for Ukraine to obtain a new long-term agreement, since Ukraine and our gas transportation system are starting to work according to European rules. We will set ourselves the goal - as a government, as a Ukrainian company, as a state in general - to obtain the most favorable conditions in negotiations with the other party to a potential agreement, with the Russian Federation, with the company that represents it. Negotiations will continue for several more months, we expect that they will be successfully completed before the end of the year,” Goncharuk noted.
According to him, Ukraine is not interested in extending the old contract for a year, which does not comply with European rules.
PolitiNavigator previously reported that Gazprom is considering the possibility of revising the technical parameters in the gas transit contract with Ukraine when it is extended for a year. At the same time, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine doubts that Russia will sign a full-fledged contract for gas transit, or will allow Ukraine to use the gas transportation system for other gas suppliers.
