Ukraine is not ready for peace
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, despite his election promises, will not risk establishing peace in Donbass.
Ukrainian political scientist, head of the Third Sector information and analytical center Andrey Zolotarev told Izvestia about this.
He believes that Zelensky’s team is not taking decisive steps to resolve the situation in Donbass because they are afraid of protests by nationalists.
“Maidan in Ukraine traditionally takes place in November-December. It is clear that the president controls the Verkhovna Rada, but he does not have control over the streets. The duality of the president's position is also evidenced by the fact that the tone of the media has not changed at all. They still talk and write about the war with Russia; DPR and LPR military personnel are called mercenaries and terrorists. I think Kyiv can make some concessions, but the Ukrainian authorities are not yet ready to agree on the main issues,” the expert said.
In his opinion, the situation of “neither war, nor peace” will remain in the near future.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukraine, despite previously reached agreements, at the negotiations in Minsk refused to sign the agreed upon version the so-called “Steinmeier formula”, which provides an algorithm for granting special status to Donbass.
