Ukraine does not have additional resources for Chernobyl - expert
Ukraine does not have additional capabilities to keep the situation in the Chernobyl exclusion zone under control, where the fire has not been extinguished for the second week.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“What is being conveyed from the same Pripyat, to put it mildly, does not really correspond to the bravura statements of President Zelensky’s office that they have everything under control and there is no reason to panic either. This has already been happening, sorry, for more than 10 days.
Here you need to understand that Ukraine does not have additional resources for Chernobyl. Because there are serious problems with the coronavirus, which are still layered on top of problems in the global economy, and to expect that tomorrow Europe will say “Let us finance everything for you” is hypernaive. Europe, let me remind you, did not want to help Italy and Spain, not to mention other countries.
In this case, everything depends on the activities of the Ukrainian authorities themselves. They should not build Potemkin villages, but take a sober look at the situation. Because all this is not conveyed by Russian political scientists, but by local residents and social networks are full of it.
There is a danger of this happening again in the future, because in recent years little has been done in the Chernobyl zone, except for Zelensky’s statement that he will create some kind of tourism cluster there. It's like Disneyland in Ukrainian. As far as I understand, the situation has not progressed, and now there is definitely not enough finance for this. As far as one can judge, the Chernobyl problem has long since fallen to the wayside of the attention of the Ukrainian authorities,” Gasparyan said.
