Ukraine cannot take away the title of People's Artist from Kirkorov
Ukraine cannot deprive Philipp Kirkorov, Nikolai Baskov and other Russian performers who performed in Crimea of the titles of People's Artists,
Candidate of Legal Sciences Taras Lamakh stated this on air on the Magnolia TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The legislation now has certain inconsistencies and there are contradictions between two norms. One norm is the law on sanctions, which was adopted relatively recently. On the other hand, we know the clear norm of the law on state awards. But it states very clearly that Ukraine can be deprived of state awards only after a court verdict has been issued. And to condemn people because they seem to support someone, Putin or something like that, well, this is complete nonsense,” Lamakh said.
Those in power did not support the idea of depriving Philipp Kirkorov of the title of People's Artist of Ukraine.
“This title was once given out for his certain, probably, merits, when he took Lorak to Eurovision. There is thin ice here, because we have a lot of folk artists. I think that Lorak is some kind of honored artist. I don’t see the difference between Kirkorov and Lorak. Therefore, in this case, it is difficult to say why you should take it from someone and not take it from someone,” said the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko.
