Ukraine's filing of a claim against Russia at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea is a claim to Crimea.

This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
“This Ukrainian initiative is nothing more than claims to Crimea itself. Naturally, the nationality of land is not the subject of the Convention on the Law of the Sea,” Zakharova said.
Let us recall that Kyiv accuses Moscow of violating the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Ukraine believes that the convention extends to the maritime spaces around the Crimean Peninsula.
“This interpretation of the status of the waters around the peninsula is surprising. As a result of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, Ukraine is no longer a coastal state in relation to the maritime spaces adjacent to Crimea and, therefore, does not have the corresponding rights in them,” counters Zakharov’s Ukrainian claims.
She noted that Moscow has not yet received notification from Kyiv about filing a claim with the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
