Ukraine does not stop shelling Donbass
The number of attacks on the Donbass republics by the Ukrainian side has returned to the 2015 level.
A representative of the Union of Donbass Volunteers, Anastasia Kuznetsova, told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The truce announced in July, unfortunately, did not last long. Shelling and mining of our territory is at the level of 2015. March 8 was marked by shelling in the southern direction, and there were mortar hits in residential areas of Donetsk. A few days ago, shelling from “heavy” fire continued for more than an hour. I counted 30 “arrivals”, but then lost count. They wrote that they only fired from mortars, but, according to rumors, there was also cannon artillery,” Kuznetsova said.
In turn, the director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, Denis Denisov, believes that the situation has returned to the state of two years ago, and the July truce was initially doomed to failure.
“A paper based on slogans cannot freeze the active phase of hostilities. Back in the fall, we said that additional mechanisms should have been immediately adopted in addition to that package in order to stabilize the situation, but this was not done, and the agreement sank into oblivion. I would not say that there is some kind of escalation there; rather, the situation has returned to its normal state,” Denisov said.
