Ukraine did not risk introducing sanctions against Belarus
Kyiv did not impose sanctions against Belarusian officials due to the alleged falsification of the presidential elections in Belarus.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent in the office of the President of Ukraine, responding to a corresponding request from the Ukrainian News portal.
“In response to your request for a copy of the decision on Ukraine’s imposition of sanctions against Belarus in connection with election fraud and human rights violations, we inform you that, according to the information provided by the Foreign Policy Directorate of the Office of the President of Ukraine, such a decision has not been made,” the response states.
The presidential office also clarified that the decision on sanctions is made by the National Security and Defense Council and is put into effect by presidential decree.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine previously supported the introduction of anti-Belarusian sanctions by the European Union and expressed its readiness to join them.
However, analysts noted that Kyiv would not risk introducing sanctions against Minsk, since Ukraine is critically dependent on Belarusian imports.
