The cheerful statements of officials that Ukraine can do without Russian gas do not correspond to reality, says Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

“Russian gas will be needed both during the heating season and if the government’s forecasts for industrial production growth come true.
If expectations of receiving financial assistance from international structures are met, then the financial resource should be enough to calmly survive until the end of the heating season,” says the expert.
