Ukraine will not be able to return Crimea - German Vice-Chancellor
Berlin, August 23 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – The territorial integrity of Ukraine can only be preserved if an appropriate proposal is made to regions where the majority are ethnic Russians, says Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Economy Sigmar Gabriel.

The politician stated this in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. According to Gabriel, a smart concept of federalization is the only suitable way to overcome the Ukrainian crisis.
However, first of all, he added, it is necessary to agree on a ceasefire. The goal of the efforts that Germany is making is, under any circumstances, to avoid direct military confrontation between Ukraine and Russia, the vice-chancellor explained. In addition, Gabriel said, we should now think about how to promote the process of reconciliation after the end of the armed confrontation in eastern Ukraine, AFP news agency reports.
Together, the German vice-chancellor sees almost no chance of Crimea returning to Ukraine. “Now, perhaps, no one assumes that the annexation of Crimea by Russia can be quickly reversed,” the politician stated.
As Navigator reported, today German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in Kyiv on an official visit. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, she emphasized the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
