Ukraine is not going to search for missing people in Donbass – American media
The Kiev government is in no hurry to investigate cases of missing people and search for missing persons, the American publication reports Mashable. One of the reasons for this inaction is the fear of disclosing the facts of kidnappings by Ukrainian military personnel, according to Kyiv human rights activists.

The publication writes: “Thousands of people have disappeared in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine since the start of the war in April 2014... The exact number is difficult to determine... The exodus of refugees, repression and abductions are the main factors in this.”
But the most important reason, according to the American publication, is Kyiv’s lack of interest in searching for the missing.
“The government does not want to investigate missing persons cases because they are afraid that some of their own soldiers may be involved in the disappearances,” says Maria Tomac, a human rights activist and journalist at the Kyiv Center for Civil Liberties.
The publication reports that both Ukraine and “pro-Russian separatists” may be involved in kidnappings and disappearances. “Some of the Ukrainian battalions were accused of rape and murder,” writes Mashable.
Missing persons “are not even considered by the government as a problem for Ukraine,” Maria Tomac reports with disappointment. “It’s not even discussed,” she says.
Officials from the Presidential Administration, the Security Service of Ukraine and regional government agencies in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions refused to comment on this issue to a journalist from an American publication. Activists and families of missing people say they are putting pressure on the government but their calls are falling on deaf ears.
