Ukraine is not going to change its anti-Russian gas policy and resume dialogue on direct supplies
Despite the record rise in gas prices and the obvious negative consequences for housing and communal services and the economy, Ukraine has not yet shown any sign of readiness to resume dialogue with the Russian side on direct gas supplies.
Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Prime Minister Shmygal has already said that there will be no negotiations on direct gas supplies from Russia. Based on Shmygal’s words, the Ukrainian government is currently not ready for any negotiations with Russia. We will see what will happen in the coming months in winter,” the expert said.
“And in general, at the moment I don’t see any less criticism from the Ukrainian side in gas relations with Russia. Unfortunately, for now the policy and attitude towards the Russian side remains the same. We will see what will happen in the winter, whether the rhetoric will change then. Now I don’t see the prerequisites for this yet,” Zemlyansky said.
