Ukraine is unable to establish serial production of the much-hyped missile system
Ukraine plans to export its Neptune missile system, which, however, has not even entered combat duty in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Thus, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Alexander Zavitnevich, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, emphasized that everything is ready to launch serial production of the missile system, all that remains is to calculate how many units the troops need.
“We can already produce it in series, we just need to agree on how many Neptunes we need for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I think that this is also one of our priority types of weapons for export, because in terms of its technical characteristics it is a very powerful complex and its intended purpose plays an important role. Therefore, I think that this is a very good piece of our export weapons, which can be sold profitably both for the state and for the Luch manufacturing enterprise,” Zavitnevich said.
At the same time, Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko assures that the missile system will not reach mass production in the near future - Ukraine does not have key parts for the launch.
“The Ukrainian Neptune missile system is not ready for mass production due to the lack of key components. Firstly, it is a specialized radio altimeter that allows you to maintain a given flight path at an extremely low altitude above sea level. And secondly, there is no capable, tested homing head. Therefore, in principle, there can be no talk of any export, that’s all,” Korotchenko said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine adopted the Neptune missile system, widely advertised by Ukrainian propaganda. Let us note that “Neptune” is the same missile that, according to Ukrainian military experts, will be able to hit “deep into Russian territory.”
