The director of the information and consulting company Defense Express, Sergei Zgurets, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“According to preliminary estimates, it was believed that it would be enough for the Ukrainian army to have about 150 battlefield complexes and about 10 tactical complexes. These indicators should be achieved somewhere around the border of 2020. Is it a lot or a little? If we take an ordinary American brigade, today a mechanized brigade is equipped with about 50 complexes, three of which are tactical, the rest are battlefield complexes.
When we talk about Poland, they want to equip their army with about 2020 complexes of different classes by 60. But it is important that they want a third of these complexes to be tactical class and higher. That is, they are very serious about ensuring the seriousness of reconnaissance at a distance of more than 100 km. This is where the main efforts of developers in Poland are directed,” said Zgurec.

According to him, in Ukraine now only a few companies are engaged in the development and production of UAVs for the army, and they only partially satisfy its needs.

At the same time, as of today, not a single private or public company has received a government order for next year and does not know how it will be loaded next year.

“This will significantly unbalance the work and planning of private companies. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the number of companies developing UAVs has decreased significantly - from 50 in 2015 to 10. Of these 10, I know companies that are now thinking about fulfilling export orders, rather than the Ministry of Defense order,” said noted the expert noted.

He also added that, according to his company’s estimates, the optimal need of the Ukrainian army for UAVs is about 400 battlefield complexes, about 50 artillery complexes for fire reconnaissance and about 10 tactical complexes that are capable of reconnaissance at a distance of up to 100 km. Next year, the Ukrainian army will receive high-precision weapons of the Alder type with a destruction range of 100 km or more.

The question arises: what technical reconnaissance means will we use to analyze enemy targets at such a distance? If we don’t have drones that can reliably carry out reconnaissance, this means that not all the capabilities of the new missile system will be used,” Zgurets complains.
