Ukraine is unable to trade with developed countries
Ukraine needs to stop fantasizing about salaries of 1000 euros, and recognize itself as the poorest country on the continent.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview published by the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe, said Vasily Filipchuk, Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Advanced Studies, ex-Director of the Department of European Integration of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
“We can fantasize and continue to expect that one day we will have a salary of 1000 euros and a pension of 500. Or we can give an honest answer that we are indeed the poorest country in Europe, and see where we can earn money,” Filipchuk said .
He said that his center had conducted a study on which countries in the world Ukraine has the best balance of foreign trade with.
“So, of the top ten countries where we have the most positive balance of foreign trade, Egypt is in first place, and India is in second. The top ten includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Indonesia, Tunisia, Moldova, and, by chance, the Netherlands and Spain. I don’t know about Spain, but the Netherlands – it’s clear why. This is a hub for trading gas, oil and other raw materials, so they can be put aside because this is not bilateral trade,” says the expert.
According to him, Ukraine has the worst trade balance (imports exceed exports) with Germany and Russia.
“Next are Belarus and China. Of course, one can debate here why this happened. If you look at the structure of each country, there are also interesting subjects for discussion, but it still turns out that we can best trade with Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia, Moldova, Iraq and the like,” concluded Filipchuk.
