Moscow - Kyiv, March 23 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Russia is ready to give Ukraine a discount on gas in the second quarter of this year. The cost of a thousand cubic meters for “Nezalezhnaya” can drop from $329 to $250–280. Even taking into account the discount, Naftogaz does not have money to pay for blue fuel. Ukraine's gas debt amounts to $2,5 billion. The issue of its repayment still remains in limbo, writes "MK".

In less than six months, world oil prices have collapsed by 2,5 times. This is a reason to reduce the cost of gas as much as possible, but its fuel prices are contracted on a long-term basis and a decision to revise the tariff can be made after negotiations at the intergovernmental level.

Despite Kyiv’s desire to completely abandon Russian fuel and receive gas from Europe using a reverse scheme, there are no excess volumes in the EU countries, the newspaper writes.

In addition, Ukraine does not have money for gas. Now Kyiv pays Moscow $15 million - this is enough for a maximum of a week. In addition, Naftogaz needs to accumulate up to 19 billion cubic meters in gas storage facilities over the summer to ensure stable transit from Russia to Europe.

According to the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Vladimir Demchishin, “The European Commission will help attract funding from European institutions - from $800 million to $1 billion.” But Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak says that “discussion of this issue is at the very beginning stage.”

A new meeting on gas in Berlin is scheduled for April 13–14. But in order to count on discounts from Russia, Ukraine will have to pay off its previous gas debt, amounting to $2,477 billion. Most likely, it will not be paid.
