Ukraine did not want to talk to the Russian Federation about its fishermen
Ukraine continues to illegally detain the captain of the Kerch fishing vessel “Nord”.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated this at a press conference within the framework of the Forum of Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the Russian leader, the Ukrainian border guards, who stole the ship and its crew, violated international treaties under which Russian sailors can fish anywhere in the Sea of Azov, except for territorial waters.
“They took it, the sailors were detained. It's an illegal detention. Even under our current agreements, you can fish anywhere, you just cannot enter territorial waters. These agreements are in effect; no one has canceled them. They took people, detained them, and kept them for a whole year. The captain, in my opinion, is still being kept there. These are absolutely illegal actions, and at the time when our border guards detained the corresponding ship, there was no desire to even talk about it. It's as if these people don't exist. This is how today’s Kyiv authorities treat their citizens,” Putin said.
