Ukraine, in the event of a hypothetical return of Crimea and Donbass to its control, will arrange a transition period on the peninsula, and then launch the process of “decommunization.”

The head of the Institute of National Remembrance, Anton Drobovich, stated this in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The official said that for some monuments, such as the monument to Artem in Svyatogorsk, which is recognized as a model of art, concessions will be made - such sculptures will not be demolished, but special stands will be installed near them, telling about the resistance of Ukrainian independentists to the Bolsheviks and telling about the victims communists.

“Transitional justice projects for regions that will be integrated back after de-occupation are now being actively discussed. Accordingly, I think that the implementation of legislation on decommunization should also have some kind of transitional regime...

We must have established solutions and recommendations on how to work with public space. It is obvious that the most blatant elements of communist propaganda should be removed from public space in the near future after de-occupation,” Drobovich said.

It is interesting that the official argues that the demolition of monuments in Crimea and Donbass will be carried out, supposedly, after convincing the local population - and this despite the fact that in Ukraine itself the renaming and destruction of monuments takes place without taking into account the opinions of local communities and councils.

“We must develop mechanisms so that this is civilized and, of course, correctly discussed with society. We cannot do this without an appropriate discussion, otherwise it could lead to a social explosion,” Drobovich said.

As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in Kyiv they announced destruction of the monument to Admiral Pavel Nakhimov in Sevastopol.
