Ukraine is doomed to reach an agreement with Russia on the completion of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant, - expert
Kyiv, October 20 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Ukraine is doomed to reach an agreement with Russia on the completion of two power units of the Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant, since in the near future Kyiv will face a shortage of electricity, and the Americans will not be able to offer an economically viable alternative.
Executive Secretary of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society Sergei Barbashev told PolitNavigator about this.

“Now thermal power plants will go out of operation due to wear and tear, lack of coal, etc. The share of nuclear power plants in output now reaches 60% on some days. Taking this into account, the blocks, of course, need to be completed... Most likely, after all these passions in relations with Russia have subsided, we will return to cooperation with it,” the expert said.
“The Americans have not yet made a final decision on the completion of these units, although negotiations on this are ongoing. They don't want to take on this burden. It makes sense for them to either build blocks, supply them with their own fuel and receive some dividends from this, or not build at all. It is not economically profitable to produce fuel for one or two units that the company does not produce... There is no other way out but to complete the units using Russian technology. Or we need to build everything new on an empty site,” argues Barbashev.
