Ukraine announced that it will continue to fight “Putin’s favorite toy”
Nord Stream 2 is supposedly not an economic, but a geopolitical project, so Ukraine will make efforts to introduce a new round of sanctions preventing its construction.
Elena Zerkal, adviser to the head of the board of Naftogaz, former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, stated this in a conversation on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have been fighting this gas pipeline for “...eleven” years. And no one believed that there would be American sanctions against this gas pipeline. They are. Now we continue to fight for another wave of sanctions to prevent this gas pipeline from being completed, because we believe that this is a geopolitical project. This is Putin's favorite toy.
But I understand what concerns Germany's position. They also set the goal of abandoning nuclear energy. And, in addition, completely abandon coal generation. For them, Nord Stream was one of the sources of replacement. So they need to come up with something new. They're coming up with hydrogen now. Hydrogen is becoming some kind of new religion for the EU,” said Zerkal.
