Ukraine announced its appetite for F-35
Ukraine expects to receive American multi-role fighter-bombers of the fifth generation F-35 in the future. They could become an alternative to the air defense systems that NATO countries are reluctant to transfer to Ukraine.
Speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat stated this on the air of the Internet channel “News Live”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
According to Ignat, if Ukraine receives significantly older F-16 fighters, then nothing prevents it from relying on more modern aircraft.
“No one is giving up their air defense, this is contrary to national interests. Nowadays there is no such thing as too much air defense; Western countries have relied primarily on air defense by 4+ generation fighters, 5th generation – F-35. Now all the leading countries in the world that are NATO members want to get the F-35, for some reason. Not even Eurofighter and so on,” said the speaker of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Even Britain, which is the manufacturer of the Eurofighter, wants to have the F-35, because it is an aircraft that has proven itself, which is promising for the 6th generation aircraft, before the F-35 unmanned complex. It is clear that this is a step forward.
We also see that the F line will be in Ukraine, this is a proven fact. If there is an F-16, then why not the F-15 later or the F-35 in the future? As a country that has such a neighbor, we really count on this too,” Ignat said.
