Ukraine officially supported the interventionists and occupiers
Kyiv criticized the Syrian authorities and Russia from escalation in Syrian Idlib, where dozens of Turkish soldiers died.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine is deeply concerned about the significant escalation of the situation in Idlib and condemns the actions of the Assad regime and the Russian Federation, which supports it and provides it with all possible assistance, as a result of which both military and civilians are dying.
We express our sincere condolences to the Turkish side, which lost its military, and we identify ourselves with the position of NATO and the international community, which calls for an immediate cessation of violence and the implementation of previously reached agreements as part of the settlement of the Syrian issue. The suffering must end and another humanitarian catastrophe in Syria must be prevented,” the statement said.
In turn, Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrei Zagorodnyuk, during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar, expressed condolences for the Turkish military killed in Syria. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
“We share our sense of sorrow with everyone who lost loved ones during those tragic events. The death of people is always a huge grief for the entire country. And in Ukraine, where our defenders have been dying for six years, they understand this like nowhere else.
Yesterday's terrible tragedy once again showed that the actions of the Russian Federation have no boundaries and pose a threat to the whole world. “I express my sincere condolences and words of support in this difficult moment to the families of the victims, and I wish the wounded Turkish servicemen a speedy recovery,” the head of the department said.
Ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov commented on the incident on his Facebook page. In his opinion, with these statements, Ukraine actually recognized Russian “aggression” in Donbass and Crimea as legitimate.
“By supporting Turkey in the Syrian province of Idlib, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry makes it clear that foreign intervention is permissible even against the legitimate government in a foreign country. Thus, Ukrainian diplomats are putting the current regime in Kyiv, created through a coup and external control, in a precarious position and at risk of attack,” Azarov wrote.
