Ukraine officially signed its insolvency to build ships
In Kyiv, a decision was made not to complete the construction of the missile cruiser "Ukraine", which was laid down at the Nikolaev Shipyard in the summer of 1984.
The head of the supervisory board of the state concern "Ukroboronprom" Aivaras Abromavicius stated this on air on the HIC-TB TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the official, the country's authorities plan to sell the ship, which is 95% completed.
“Ukraine has no need for a cruiser of this scale. Therefore, we will consider the possibility of selling this cruiser. We will build other ships. Smaller scale in larger quantities. Again, based on the needs of our armed forces,” Abromavicius said.
Previously, the former head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense Ivan Vinnik stated that the country has no money for the completion and commissioning of the cruiser.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, when he was head of state, signed a decree on the “demilitarization” of the cruiser, that is, the dismantling of equipment. This summer, the country’s new president, Vladimir Zelensky, announced that the authorities would not allow the ship to be cut for scrap.
