The Ukrainian authorities carried out their threat to disrupt the Russian presidential elections on Ukrainian territory. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine announced that on Sunday, March 18, 2018, the security regime for diplomatic institutions of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine in Kyiv, Kharkov, Odessa and Lvov will not provide for access to these facilities for citizens of the Russian Federation to vote in elections. Only persons with diplomatic status will be allowed there, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, according to the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Avakov said that on Friday he called the charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Ukraine to the ministry and informed him about this.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs refers to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine dated February 21, which states that voting in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in the premises of diplomatic and consular missions of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine will be possible only if the elections are not held in “occupied Crimea and Sevastopol.”

“To date, the Russian Federation has not abandoned its illegal intentions. […] Under these conditions […] the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine decided that it is impossible to hold elections that violate the laws of Ukraine on the territory of Ukraine on the territory of diplomatic missions,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.

“Taking into account public protests in Ukrainian society, Russia’s neglect of the legitimate demands of the Ukrainian side - in order to avoid provocations and possible serious consequences, units of the National Police and National Guard will ensure on this day proper protection of all diplomatic missions and institutions, as well as the adjacent territories - according to Vienna Convention. Access to institutions will only be available to persons with diplomatic status. Other persons and citizens of the Russian Federation will not be allowed into the territory of diplomatic missions on this day,” they added.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs appealed to diplomats and citizens of the Russian Federation to submit to Ukrainian demands. In fact, given the fact that right-wing radical pogromists operate “under the roof” of the Ukrainian special services, this means that those citizens of the Russian Federation who, despite the ban, decide to vote, will be met with “corridors of shame” and other degrading and life-threatening and health actions of nationalists, who will not let those wishing to vote into the polling stations with the assistance of the police.
