Ukraine finds itself in unpleasant company
In Kyiv they hope that the population census will be carried out in 2020, since today it is impossible to name the exact number of residents living in the country.
Ella Libanova, director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with the Kiev magazine “New Time”, answering the question of what figures about the size of the Ukrainian population can be used, given that a population census has not been carried out for many years.
“We are currently preparing for this census and no one has canceled anything. The State Statistics Service is doing everything it was supposed to do according to schedule. I hope that we will conduct a census in 2020. Since there is a concept of rounds, all countries try to do their censuses in approximately the same year in order to operate with comparable figures. We missed the last round in 2010. By the way, besides us, only Sudan did not conduct a census - an unpleasant company, you know,” Libanova said.
