Ukraine has finally confirmed its economic insolvency
Ukraine will be able to complete the construction of its only Project 58250 corvette only as a patrol ship.
Deputy Director of the Institute of World Politics Nikolai Beleskov stated this today at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ideally, we can expect that this corvette will be completed and launched in a simplified version as a coast guard ship. This would be a rational decision. This is the most we can hope for. We don't have the resources right now. We cannot complete it as a full-fledged corvette,” Beleskov said.
According to his information, the ship’s frame is now 70% complete; the latest information that they are going to complete it appeared last year.
“A situation of uncertainty is the worst thing that can happen. They would have already made a final decision and said: we don’t have money,” the expert noted.
The implementation of the expensive Corvette program has been postponed to a distant date: delivery of the first ship, the design of which began almost 15 years ago, is scheduled for 2022. The problem is that the Black Sea plant, which was building the corvette, went bankrupt and was sold into private hands.
The Corvette program provides for the construction of 4 Project 58250 ships of the Vladimir the Great type. The cost of building the ships will be almost 32 billion hryvnia.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense Sergei Pashinsky admitted that Ukraine is not able to produce combat aircraft, and its ceiling is “Dozor” armored cars and “Hammer” mortars.
