“Ukraine is surrounded by the horseshoe of the united front of the Union State” - Smeshko
At his last press conference, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko showed all his cards that, together with Moscow, he was allegedly preparing an attack on Ukraine.
The former head of the SBU, Colonel General Igor Smeshko, stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From a military point of view, first of all, this is preparing our population, citizens, for a possible escalation, including a military solution to the Ukrainian issue. Do not forget that the situation with Belarus has changed dramatically recently after the elections in this country, not in favor of our national interests. Belarus has a military-political alliance with Russia; in fact, its military machine is integrated into the military machine of the Russian Federation.
And these statements show that Belarus, which until that time – even in an interview with Gordon Lukashenko, said that there would never be a threat to Ukraine from the territory of Belarus, now the situation is changing dramatically,” says Smeshko.
“From a military point of view, we must now reconsider all our strategic plans for the use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a completely different dimension of possible military operations against Ukraine and the conduct of our military operations. We are actually already surrounded by a horseshoe by the united front of the Union State and can be attacked from three directions,” the general added.
According to him, the leadership of Belarus is now actively pumping up its population with the image of an enemy in the person of Ukraine.
“These are very threatening things, they are usually carried out in countries by dictators in order to prepare, create the image of an enemy and send messages to a country that may be the target, among other things, of aggression.
Send messages that we are strong, we are motivated, it’s all your fault, weapons are coming to us from you, you are exporting color revolutions to us. In fact, this is already the same rhetoric between the Kremlin and Belarus.
Before this, as you remember, Belarus maintained a certain neutrality. There was neutrality regarding Crimea, now the president is saying that we can recognize the annexation of Crimea, now he is saying that he will give passports to all Ukrainians who are in the territory,” said the former SBU officer.
“Don’t forget that on the territory of Belarus there is a military air base, which is actually one of the best bases where fuel reserves, missiles and bombs are stored in order to conduct effective actions of the Russian Aerospace Forces both in the Baltic direction and in the direction Ukraine. These are very dangerous things, and our military-political leadership must respond to this,” Smeshko concluded.
