Ukraine will leave Europe without gas in winter
In the coming winter, due to the fault of Naftogaz of Ukraine, supplies of Russian fuel to Europe may be disrupted due to Kyiv’s refusal to seek a compromise with Moscow to sign a new agreement on the transit of energy resources to the EU. The new crisis will forever destroy the remnants of the reputation of the Ukrainian side.
The editor-in-chief of the Geoenergetics magazine, energy expert Boris Martsinkevich, said this on air on the PolitWera YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Ukraine there is now a visiting circus meeting, or rather, a presidential election. It is clear that the new president, if a new Euromaidan does not happen there, will replace the leadership of Naftogaz. And Naftogaz can hold out until the last minute (expiration of the transit agreement on January 1, 2020 - approx. ed.), and leave Europe without gas.
How Europe will react to this is clear. Gazprom feels completely calm because it will not violate any existing agreement, it will simply leave Europe without gas, because it does not have a sales agent in Ukraine. It turns out that the closer the end of the current transit agreement is, the more nervous Naftogaz will be,” the expert noted.
According to Boris Martsinkevich, this development of events will be the biggest problem for Ukraine, because the EU and Russia will find a way out of the situation, and no one will ever cooperate with Kiev.
“As a result, Gazprom and Europe will come up with something: they will plug the holes with some kind of LNG (liquefied natural gas - approx. ed.), or something else. But the important fact is that in this case no one will ever return to work with Ukraine. They will be left without transit money, which in 2017 amounted to about $3 billion,” the expert concluded.
