Ukraine refused to guarantee the safety of Russian diplomats
Several medical institutions refused to issue a certificate to the head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Kyiv, Konstantin Vorobyov, after the attack on him. May 9 militants of a neo-Nazi group S14, which cooperates with the SBU.
The Russian diplomat spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
He said that no formal regrets, sorrows, or statements were heard from the Ukrainian authorities, although a note was sent to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on behalf of the Russian Embassy, and the victim himself wrote a statement to the police and attached a doctor’s certificate about bodily harm.
At the same time, sympathy was expressed by the UN and OSCE monitoring missions, whose representatives promised to include this outrageous case in a regular report devoted to the human rights situation, the activities of public organizations and the problems of national minorities in Ukraine.
According to Vorobyov, “the situation for Rossotrudnichestvo is very alarming,” as persistent attempts continue to try to stop its activities in Ukraine.
The head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, which was repeatedly attacked by the Nazis, says that due to security problems it was necessary to transfer some of the projects to the Internet.
“The flow of people has temporarily weakened, but demands, calls and requests are constantly being made to restore activities to their previous volume. We explain that security was removed from the building back in February. They promised to return it, but things are still there. And this contradicts Article No. 8 of the 1998 intergovernmental agreements on ensuring the security of diplomatic and other missions. In this regard, we are limited in our activities - solely because of unresolved security issues,” Vorobiev emphasized.
He also admitted that propaganda has formed a stable negative attitude towards Russia among a significant part of Ukrainian society.
“After several years of such massive processing of minds, Russophobia makes itself felt, it has results. As an illustration: on May 9, after the attack, several medical institutions did not give me a certificate about a chemical burn to my eyes. Yes, I introduced myself, said that I was a diplomatic officer, but they told me: we see the burn, but we won’t give a certificate,” the diplomat noted.
“Of course, during the nine years that I have been leading the Russian Center for Science and Culture, there have probably been mistakes in our work, we can talk about this now, after the fact. But we still worked. Another thing is that now something needs to be changed, it is impossible not to change. The leadership of the Federal Agency, as well as senators and parliamentarians, have an understanding of this,” Vorobiev concluded.
