Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze told reporters about this, the Government Portal reports.

“This happened due to the fact that Ukraine was unable both at the level of the State Fiscal Service and at the level of local authorities to fulfill its obligations under these projects. Ukraine should not return 8 million euros. There are other mechanisms by which the EU will be able to underprovide these funds to Ukraine in future programs. I suspect that this is exactly how events will unfold using means that have not been effectively used in Ukraine,” noted Klympush-Tsintsadze.

According to her, almost all checkpoint projects were started in 2012-2013.

“I want to emphasize that these projects have not started within the last two or three years. These projects extend back to the previous EU funding program. Began in 2012-13. Already at those stages, many abuses were carried out... We were unable to agree on the continuation of these projects. At the same time, we can talk with the EU about starting a new cross-border cooperation program due to the increase in Ukrainian exports to the EU, due to the fact that transit is increasing,” added Klympush-Tsintsadze.
