Ukraine opened the border with Transnistria to spite Moldova
Ukraine has opened the Kuchurgan checkpoint on the border with Transnistria to traffic.
A map confirming this is posted on the website of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Based on the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, I can confirm that our points are not among those that remain closed. This is already good news. We must wait, including for internal procedures, which will be at the level of customs and border authorities of Ukraine,” Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria Alexander Stetsyuk said in an interview with First Pridnestrovsky.
70% of Transnistrian imports from Russia pass through Kuchurgan. Belarus and Ukraine. After this checkpoint was closed due to anti-epidemic measures, goods began to be transported through Moldova, which constantly delayed medical equipment and medicines, reagents for testing for COVID-19, components for ventilators, and computer equipment for organizing distance learning for schoolchildren at the border. .
In January, the Moldovan government postponed the introduction of the “second phase” of joint customs and border control with Ukraine in Kuchurgan from February 1 to August 1. There are 13 checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Transnistrian border, 6 of which have been manned by Moldovan border guards since 2017. Chisinau and Kyiv planned to establish joint patrols at ten checkpoints.
