Ukraine opened the way for Russia to Odessa
Ukraine’s naval potential is so limited that it cannot even indicate its presence in the Black Sea and prevent the appearance of Russian ships near Odessa.
Taras Chmut, head of the board of the Ukrainian Miliary Center, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After 2014, the Navy lost its entire ship core in Crimea. The remains of the ship's personnel, which were returned by the Russians, are currently not capable of performing any complex tasks at sea.
The Navy command, within the limits of available funding, is trying to somehow fix it, repair it, even modernize it, but without a normal state program for restoring the Navy with normal funding and normal deadlines, we are not able to counteract the Russians in any way.
We don't have any anti-ship weapons. The ability to conduct anti-submarine defense is at a very low level. We simply do not have ships or even boats on which we can go to sea and indicate our presence in the region - that we exist, and we will not allow the Russians to move closer to Odessa,” Chmut said.
