Ukraine took the ZALK plant from the Russian oligarch, but does not know what to do with it
Zaporozhye, March 12 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – The Supreme Court of Ukraine, by its decision, confirmed the legality of the demands of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the return to the state of 68,01% of the shares of OJSC Zaporozhye Aluminum Production Plant.

“Finally, the highest court put an end to the long-term dispute about the termination of purchase and sale agreements for 68,01% of the shares of OJSC Zaporozhye Aluminum Production Plant, worth more than UAH 380 million under the contract and their return to state ownership,” the press service said in a statement. In turn, as Zaporozhye media report, the chairman of the Zaporozhye regional state administration, Valentin Reznichenko, believes that ZALK will no longer work.
“Outdated technology, uncompetitive. It is unlikely to work in the capacity in which we are accustomed,” he said.
Commenting on the return of shares, Reznichenko said: “This is not a victory. We are the ones who put a burden on ourselves.”
As PolitNavigator reported, in mid-summer 2014, the Russian company RUSAL stopped the Zaporozhye aluminum smelter. In November, the court returned the plant to Ukraine, but RUSAL filed a complaint against the court decision.
