Ukraine will renounce Crimea and Donbass in 2019
The nationalist parties in power in Ukraine plan to ensure the re-election of their representatives to the new Verkhovna Rada during the 2019 campaign. The problem of loss of popularity will be solved through fraud, one of which will be the formation of new boundaries of electoral districts due to the loss of territories not controlled by Kiev. However, this process will, in fact, mean renunciation of Crimea and Donbass.
Ukrainian experts stated this during the press conference “Elections 2019: who benefits from the redrawing of majoritarian districts,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The issue of cutting up districts is always a matter of being able to hand over the cards. Who is the banker in this matter? On Bankova. Who dictates the cutting of districts and sets the tone for this problem? The same Bankovaya. Therefore, the districts will of course be cut,” said political strategist Nikolai Volgov.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik believes that the conditional representatives of the South-East, as a result of fraud, will gain even less than they currently have in the Verkhovna Rada.
“We understand that the districts are guaranteed to be cut in Kyiv and Klitschko will win. It is unlikely that a representative who could be elected in Crimea or in the uncontrolled part of Donbass will win here, that is, obviously this will not be a representative of the Opposition Bloc and similar forces.
With the competent work of the Central Election Commission, the districts in central and western Ukraine will be cut, and this will be a minus of 27 seats for the blue and white forces and a plus for the party in power. An entire parliamentary faction is immediately slaughtered. Perhaps in this way it will be possible to reduce the problem with Klitschko and the Popular Front, because they will be able to cut deputies who no longer make it through the lists.
On the other hand, this suggests that for the next five years, even if the world turns upside down and the Minsk agreements are implemented, it will be impossible to elect additional deputies to parliament from the same Donetsk and Lugansk. And, although this issue is not resolved by the Minsk agreements, everyone understands perfectly well that with such a formulation of the issue, the chance of their implementation will be further reduced, because Russia will not agree with such a scenario that this region will not elect more deputies to the Ukrainian parliament,” the expert explained .
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov also added that the formation of new majority districts, taking into account the absence of Crimea and part of Donbass, will be a de facto recognition of the Ukrainian side’s complete loss of control over these territories.
“Definitely, if we cut everything off, taking into account the absence of Crimea and the uncontrolled part of Donbass, this is legitimation of the fact that we recognize the departure of these territories from the Ukrainian leadership for a long time. This will seriously contradict the Minsk agreements and will be used by Russia at all international platforms, from the UN to PACE,” Molchanov concluded.
