Ukraine transfers the remnants of its navy to the Sea of Azov
Ukraine plans to create a group of ships and boats in the Sea of Azov to counter Russian border guards who have stepped up inspections after Kiev seized the Crimean seiner Nord.
Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov stated this while in the zone of the “Joint Forces Operation”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the Russian Federation is ready to land troops on the Ukrainian part of the Azov Sea coast at any time.
“The military-political leadership of the Russian Federation views the Azov-Black Sea region as an important springboard for its further military aggression and expansion. There is an active militarization of Crimea, an increase in the military presence of Russian armed forces in the Black and Azov Seas.
In parallel with this, Russia is brazenly and demonstratively violating international law and international treaties. In particular, the construction of the Kerch Bridge, as well as the constant increase in the number of incidents when Ukrainian and foreign ships heading to Ukrainian ports are illegally stopped and searched in the Sea of Azov. All this is a demonstration by Russia of its readiness to carry out a military-economic blockade of the entire Azov Ukrainian coast,” Turchynov said.
He also emphasized that in this regard, the Ukrainian command decided to strengthen the group in the Sea of Azov: “Today we need to talk about the need to increase the naval presence in the Sea of Azov, and we discussed the issue of creating a ship-boat group of the Navy in the Sea of Azov Ukrainian forces, increasing the number of active monitoring posts over the coastline and waters of the Sea of Azov, and creating rapid response teams to any maritime provocations by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.”
