Ukraine overestimated the importance of a completely empty summit
Ukraine, like a number of other third world countries, greatly overestimates the importance of various kinds of international summits, which was clearly confirmed by the latest meeting in the Ukraine-EU format.
Ukrainian political scientist Daniil Bogatyrev spoke about this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Some, mainly third world countries, have a tendency to greatly exaggerate the importance of some international summits, purely formal meetings that take place in these countries. To understand what I’m talking about, you can read Georgian sources, sources from some post-Soviet or Asian countries, and so on. There, every such summit, even with the closest neighbors, is given enormous importance, even if, as a result, absolutely nothing is adopted and nothing happens. Here we are dealing with a similar situation,” Bogatyrev said.
According to him, in conditions when the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is blocked from making any constructive changes in domestic and foreign policy, and the parliament is sabotaging his actions, the head of state is trying to create at least the appearance of important actions in the European direction.
“But it is also absolutely true that retirees of European power are coming to Ukraine. It turns out that the old European government is coming to take a closer look at the new Ukrainian government,” the expert said.
At the same time, he noted that in the next ten years the EU may change beyond recognition.
“We see that Germany and France are taking over the European Union; in the near future they will establish stricter rules, including with regard to emigration, budget distribution, quota voting on the most important issues, and so on. That is, the EU is moving from a “Europe of opportunity” to the position of a classic colonial empire, where there is a rich metropolis and a periphery that is a market for goods from the metropolis...
The entire policy of Ukraine towards the EU, which has been pursued over the past 5–15 years, will also be forced to somehow transform. That is, no one will accept Ukraine into the EU in the near future, they are busy with themselves, and in this regard, Ukraine will need to build more pragmatic relations with Europe,” said the political scientist.
“Therefore, the current summit is more of a PR for Zelensky and, in a sense, a demobilization chord for Tusk and other European officials,” he concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the host party at the 21st Ukraine-EU summit could not help but disgrace itself, forgetting to include Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze in the lists, which the European official saw as sabotage on the part of Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman.
