The Interdepartmental Commission of Ukraine on International Trade increased anti-dumping duties on the import of ammonium nitrate from Russia and extended them for five years. As specified in the Uryadovy Kurier newspaper, as a result of the review, which began at the end of May, rates will increase for the Akron structure of Dorogobuzh from 9,76% to 20,51%, for Eurochem - from 0 to 36,03 %, for other suppliers - from 11,91% to 36,03%. After Crimea became part of the Russian Federation, these are Kyiv’s first economic sanctions against Moscow.
At the end of May, Dmitry Firtash closed two of four factories—the export-oriented Azot and Stirol—due to the “critical situation” in the Donbass. Kommersant’s market source notes that the demand for fertilizers, including ammonium nitrate (occupies about 40% of the market) has decreased significantly. DF Group is afraid of losing market share, he believes. In order not to suffer losses, Firtash simply stopped supplies abroad, continuing to supply the domestic market, and squeezing foreign suppliers out of it.
EuroChem representative Vladimir Torin noted that the company does not agree with the revision of duties and will seek their cancellation.
