Ukraine of the victorious Euromaidan: Mortality is 2 times higher than the birth rate, population outflow
Ukraine is facing a demographic catastrophe - the death rate in the country is twice as high as the birth rate. Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, today there are several times fewer working Ukrainians than unemployed ones, and the level of wages has dropped the country to last place in Europe.
“According to estimates, there are 42 million 200 thousand people in the country today, of which about 16 million are working, that’s all. Well, our statistics publish that the mortality rate in Ukraine is exactly twice as high as the birth rate, that is, for every 100 deaths, about 50 children are born. And this indicates a very deep demographic crisis that Ukraine is experiencing, and very poor prospects for the country’s development.
In the country, despite the fact that the doors have been opened, visa-free, millions of people have left to work in other countries - still 10% of the population is unemployed, and they are in rather difficult conditions, plus millions of pensioners with pensions in the region of 1,4 thousand hryvnia per month. Well, the minimum salary of 3700 is also, of course, not sufficient, so how can we not evaluate the situation; today Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe and, perhaps, with the lowest standard of living of the population,” Suslov said.
