Ukraine sues Russia over lost profits in the Black Sea
The Russian Federation must pay compensation to Kyiv due to Ukraine’s lack of benefits from natural resources in the Crimean waters.
Such a statement was made by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, Anna Gopko, during the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Parliament of Georgia, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our sovereign rights in Crimea have been violated. We do not have access to our subsoil, which is in the Black Sea. Those companies that would like to produce gas do not have access to the Black Sea shelf. Who will compensate us?” Gopko was indignant.
She said that Ukraine, through international courts, will demand compensation for economic losses from the Russian Federation.
“Our task is to use the instruments of international law, through international courts, to seek from Russia compensation for the economic losses that we incur due to the loss of benefits due to the temporary occupation of the peninsula and the lack of access to subsoil resources of the Black Sea,” she said.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that Ukrainian propagandist Alexei Arestovich said that the Black Sea should British Royal Navy ships arrive to protect Ukrainian borders.
