Ukraine has applied for the European Unemployment Championship
If the authorities’ attitude towards small and medium-sized businesses does not change, then the same number may be added to the existing 2 million unemployed during 2015 due to the closure of small and medium-sized businesses.

“In Ukraine, thanks to the policy of our government, or rather its absence, and often outright sabotage, the number of unemployed is growing rapidly. As of May 1, 2015, the number of unemployed people registered at employment centers amounted to 486,4 thousand, which is 2,5% higher than a year earlier. And this is only official statistics, which, according to the classic, is just one form of lie,” writes Ruslan Sobol.
According to him, even in accordance with the above figures at the end of 2015, Ukraine risks taking first place in terms of unemployment among all European countries.
“According to our government, the economic decline this year will be 5,5% of GDP. According to the largest international banks, it can range from 6,3% to 9,8%, and according to some experts - 20-30% of GDP. The deterioration of the business climate and the decrease in the solvency of business is also indirectly evidenced by the growth of wage arrears, which amounted to 22,5% in the first quarter of this year - UAH 1,5 billion.
In Ukraine, small and medium-sized enterprises are closing en masse (tens of thousands have already closed in Kiev alone), and optimization is underway in large companies. This has an extremely negative impact on the labor market and the unemployment rate,” – says the head of the Ukrainian Entrepreneurs Association.
According to Sobol, the growth of unemployment in Ukraine is also influenced by the policy of subordination to the IMF.
“The agreement with the IMF provides for a 3% reduction in the number of people employed in the public sector, which will additionally affect the increase in the number of unemployed. As a result, the IMF, which forecast unemployment to rise to 11,5% at the end of 2015, may be forced to worsen this forecast due to a larger-than-forecast collapse in GDP in 2015. By comparison, unemployment in the 28 EU countries in March 2015 amounted to 9,8%, remaining at this level for the third month in a row,” the public figure cites these figures. .
“At the same time, we understand that the real number of unemployed is many times greater than the officially registered ones. And the minimum amount of unemployment assistance (80% of the subsistence level) remains at the 2013 level – 974,4 UAH per month,” – Ruslan Sobol completes his thought.
