Ukraine will bow to the Russian Federation to avoid cosmic shame
By the end of this year, Ukraine should launch its own remote sensing spacecraft “Sich 2-30 (2-1)” into space.
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Development of Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky stated this on air on the Apostrophe Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the official, the satellite itself is already ready - the only question is how to deliver it into orbit. Urusky also called it a shame that the space power Ukraine has not launched a single satellite into space in ten years.
“Today, the satellite is actually in full readiness; the satellite was manufactured at the state-owned enterprise Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, partly from budgetary funds, partly from Yuzhnoye Design Bureau’s own funds. Now the most important thing for us is the coordination of the satellite with the potential launch vehicle on which we can launch it.
We do not have such a wide selection of launch vehicles to launch this satellite. In fact, we have only one. Now all technical issues related to the launch of the satellite are resolved with the launching company. We'll have a clearer picture of this in the coming weeks, and the launch itself should happen at the end of the year.
I hope that ten years after Ukraine has not launched spacecraft, we will be able to do this. Because it is a shame for a space state, as we call ourselves, a large space power, not to have a single spacecraft in orbit for ten years. We now have only two nano-satellites, which were launched by students of our glorious Kyiv Polytechnic,” Urusky said.
