Ukraine will understand what life is like without Russian gas
In Ukraine, no one thinks what will happen to gas distribution in the country if Kyiv loses the contract for the transit of Russian fuel to Europe.
Energy expert Gennady Ryabtsev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Due to the loss of transit, the price of gas will increase, since it will be necessary to increase costs for optimizing transportation routes for domestically produced gas and its distribution among consumers.
This distribution depends on the pressure in the main pipelines; this pressure is ensured, among other things, thanks to the transit volumes that we have. An example of how dependent we are on the pressure in the pipe was the events of late February and early March, when a 20% decrease in pressure led to a gas shortage for the majority of Ukrainian consumers.
What will happen when the pressure in transit pipes decreases to zero, or, conditionally, to 1/8 of the current pressure? There could be big problems.
The bad thing is that so far there are no plans or desire to develop any scenarios for the development of events, a list of measures that will need to be applied if Russia reduces transit volumes to 10-15 billion cubic meters. m.
And if this really happens on January 1, 2020, then this will generally be a big problem. A complete reduction in transit at the height of the heating season will be a big problem, and I don’t see anyone in our country preparing for such events,” Ryabtsev said.
