This was stated by Deputy Head of the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus Inna Karaban, commenting on the measles outbreak in Ukraine, the Naviny.by news agency reports.
“Our measles situation is very favorable, and imported cases are not spreading only because there is a high level of vaccination coverage of the population - 98-99%,” she noted.
Inna Karaban clarified that there are parents who refuse to vaccinate their children, but these are isolated cases.
“Everyone is now concerned about the situation that is developing in Ukraine in connection with the measles outbreak, including deaths. In general, this is nonsense for a European country when children and adults die from measles,” she noted.
For citizens of Belarus who are planning a trip to Ukraine, as well as for the prevention of measles, the epidemiologist advised contacting a clinic to check the availability of the necessary vaccinations or take a blood test for antibody titers.
Let us remind you that since the beginning of 2018, more than 3 thousand people have fallen ill with measles in Ukraine, three people have died from measles, including two children. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health predicts that the worst is yet to come and expects a new outbreak of the disease from March this year.
