Ukraine received a powerful blow to its European integration course
Both Poland and Ukraine are trying to play the historical nationalist card, but Warsaw's position looks stronger than Kyiv's.

This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik.
“Warsaw, like Kyiv, is playing the historical and national card. At the same time, Poland’s position is stronger, since more Ukrainians live on its territory than Poles in Ukraine. In fact, a strong blow was dealt to Kyiv's policy of joining the European Union. It became obvious that it would not be possible to get there with Bandera,” the political scientist said.
However, according to him, the Ukrainian authorities will not be able to change course a year before the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“If Poroshenko tries to abandon Ukrainian nationalism, he will lose the right, his only electoral base, and the political system will collapse. In this regard, the president can only try to limit nationalist statements by representatives of the country's ruling elite. In turn, the Poles will continue to increase their pressure on Ukraine, in particular, they will demand, through the UN and other international organizations, to legally ban Ukrainian nationalist organizations that sympathize with Stepan Bandera. The result of the confrontation will be the freezing of Polish-Ukrainian diplomatic relations,” predicts Bortnik.
