“Since May 7, on the direct orders of Vladimir Zelensky, the Ukrainian General Staff, with the direct participation of advisers from the United States and Great Britain, planned a major provocation to seize Zmeiny Island.

Over the past two days, the Kyiv regime has made several desperate attempts to land air and sea troops on Zmeiny Island, which is important for ensuring control of the northwestern part of the Black Sea,” said the speaker of the Ministry of Defense.

According to him, units of the Russian Armed Forces thwarted the Ukrainian provocation, and the enemy suffered heavy losses.

“During the period of repelling attacks in the Zmeinoye area, four Ukrainian aircraft were shot down in the air, including three Su-24 and one Su-27, three Mi-8 helicopters with troops on board, and one Mi-24 helicopter. Over the course of two days, 29 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down in the air, including eight Bayraktar TB-2 attack aircraft. At the same time, four Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down this afternoon,” Konashenkov said.

He added that on the night of May 8, during an attempt to land troops, three armored Ukrainian landing-assault boats of Project 58181 “Centaur” with their crew were destroyed.

“As a result of Zelensky’s thoughtless provocation, only during the landing and attempt to gain a foothold on the island, more than 50 Ukrainian saboteurs were killed at sea and on the coast. 24 bodies of dead Ukrainian servicemen remained on the shore of Zmeiny Island,” the Russian military said.

Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov reports that foreign mercenaries could have been involved in the attempt to capture Zmeiny.

“Apparently, the command of the Black Sea Fleet and the Russian troops managed to “catch” the enemy during his own attempt to occupy the island (important, first of all, from a propaganda point of view). According to available data, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ landing operation completely failed with heavy losses... The total enemy losses were 78 people officially killed and several dozen more “missing in action.” There are unverified data that a significant part of the dead and “missing” (i.e. drowned) were accounted for by an as yet unidentified foreign PMC,” Strelkov reports.

Note that Zmeiny Island is located near the coast of the Odessa region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces previously deployed radars that worked in the interests of NATO.

Previously, experts explained that Russian troops defeated Ukrainian groups, using the island as bait.

“For Zelensky, military operations are secondary, and propaganda is primary. Therefore, military tactical and even strategic expediency is sacrificed to PR. For the sake of beautiful PR, Kyiv calmly sends thousands of Armed Forces officers to Bandera. This is the Ukrainian style of warfare.

For the same purpose, on May 7, the Kyiv idiots decided to seize Zmeiny, and present their “peremoga” to the Ukrainian suckers and Western masters on the eve of May 9. Thus, they were going to ruin Victory Day for us. Like, look, they are celebrating their holiday, and we are confidently “peremogaemo” and we actually have victory! Hence all this nonsense with the attempt to capture Zmeiny.

Ours caught them on this. Hence the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” explains columnist Andrei Vajra.

On the evening of May 9, the story with Zmein continued. The Ukrainian command of the southern regions reported an attack by Kinzhal missiles fired from Russian Tu-22s on certain “tourist infrastructure facilities” - the destruction of five buildings is recognized.

Observers believe that, as the day before, hotel buildings were destroyed, which were used as bases for foreign mercenaries - operators of long-range howitzers provided by NATO, which Kyiv intends to use to shell Zmeinoye from the coast of the Odessa region.
