Ukraine has made a fool of itself in front of the EU
By introducing a moratorium on the export of round timber, Ukraine thereby committed an outright violation of the association agreement with the EU, which the Ukrainian authorities so sought.

The President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“By violating the agreements signed within the framework of the association with the EU and the WTO, we, moreover, put ourselves in a stupid position - there are no countries in the world where there is a moratorium on the export of raw materials. This is silly. The argument that a ban is needed due to illegal logging is not understood by European bureaucrats. What then do the regulatory authorities do? Merkel will not solve the mess in forestry for us. The Europeans say: we signed the agreement, fulfilled its requirements - what moratoriums can there be? So the discussion here is completely inappropriate,” the economist noted.
“When we introduced a moratorium, European officials took the agreement and asked: why did you even sign it? These are ordinary business relations,” Okhrimenko added.
Let us recall that the lobbyists for the moratorium on the export of round timber include a number of Ukrainian politicians who actively participated in the protests on the Maidan, the main demand of which was the signing of an agreement with the EU.
