Ukraine lost a billion dollars during the blockade of Crimea
The blockade of Crimea was a mistake on the part of Ukraine. Such a step annually leads to the loss of at least a billion dollars for the Ukrainian economy. Russia, on the contrary, successfully coped with the blockade and opened new markets for its producers in Crimea.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The blockade of Crimea was wrong. When power lines were blown up, they caused big problems, including at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which supplied electricity to Crimea. How did it end? It ended with the Germans helping Russia build two power plants in Crimea; Siemens supplied the turbines.
Ukraine lost about one billion dollars from the blockade of Crimea. As far as I remember, more than 300 million from the export of electricity and more than 600 million from the export of products per year, supplied by farmers in the Kherson region, Nikolaev region - southern Ukraine. This entire market went to Stavropol, Kuban, partly to the Turks, and so on.
Therefore, every time the question arises: in whose interests was all this done? It seems to me that both the first and second blockades were not in the interests of Ukraine. They caused very great economic damage to Ukraine, but they did not cause damage to the other side, because they redistributed markets and gave the same Russia the opportunity to earn additional money on this territory,” Suslov said.
